2. OLDER POTS
Older pots still contain so-called plasticisers that keep a pot supple for years (>10 years).
These used older pots do not dry out in the heat or light.
They do not break even after 10 years of use !
|
3. FLEXIBLE, BENDABLE AND UNBREAKABLE FLOWER POTS
Large range of used flexible and unbreakable plastic pots.
These pots are made of soft plastic, and remain soft because they contain plasticisers.
These pots are still usable for years (> 5 - 10 years).
The smaller sizes (5.5 cm and 6.5 cm) have been used for less than 1 year in a shaded greenhouse.
|
4. NEW POTS DRY OUT AND BREAK FASTER !
Pots made today should not contain plasticisers.
These plasticisers keep a pot flexible and pliable.
Without these plasticisers, a pot dries out within a few years.
Which makes a new pot break faster when you grab it.
Old rigid hard plastic pots also dry out quickly.
Well ....
Banning the use of plasticisers may be good for nature, but not for your pots!
Consequence: compulsory repotting of dried-out new pots every few years !

6. DIMENSIONS OF POTS AND USE
Small pots
Useful size for sowing seeds, and for potting small Cacti and small plants.
Large pots
Useful size for potting large Cacti and other plants.
|
7. SHAPE OF POTS AND USE
1. Round pots
Round pots are more harmonious for plants than square pots:
1. Much larger top relative to the contents
Round pots are usually the same height as wide, while square pots are often taller than wide.
A round pot narrows more towards the bottom than a square pot.
Therefore, the surface area at the top of a round pot is relatively large compared to its capacity.
So a round pot has less content relative to the top surface, which means the soil dries out sooner.
2. No corners where it is wetter
There are no corners in a round pot, so less water remains than in a square pot.
2. Square pots
Square pots are slightly higher than wide.
Useful for Cacti and plants with longer roots, such as the Peyote Cactus.
Square pots are also easy to place next to each other.
Large range of used bendable plastic pots that will last for years to come (> 5 - 10 years).
The pots are made of soft plastic, making them pliable and unbreakable.
The pots do not dry out in heat, as rigid hard plastic pots do.
Available in black and terracotta (brown-red).

9. DISADVANTAGES OF SQUARE POTS
1. Smaller top vs. contents
Square pots are often taller than wide.
Therefore, the surface of the top of a square pot is relatively small compared to its capacity.
A square pot therefore has more content relative to the top surface area, causing the soil to dry out later.
2. Cold and wet corners
A square pot has four corners where it stays damp longer and where water remains.
In such corners it is colder and more humid, which is a source of infections and pests.
This allows plants to absorb moisture longer, so they grow faster, less compact and more elongated.
3. Tall pots
We have tall round and tall square pots in large sizes.
The height is much higher than the width or diameter of the pot.
Especially for large columnar growing Trichocereus species, a high pot is important.
4. Advantages of a tall pot
1. The stem can be planted slightly deeper into the soil, giving more strength.
2. The contents of a tall pot are larger, allowing all Trichocereus species to make more roots.
The more roots, the stronger the growth !
5. Pots fit in Pot Plates
Pot plates are strong portable plates with cut-outs for round or square pots.
A potting plate has:
-- several large cut-outs for large pots 12 cm in diameter or larger.
-- 63 small recesses for small pots 5.5 cm in diameter.
The pots are firmly clamped in a potting plate so they cannot fall over.
A pot plate can be easily picked up and moved, moving dozens of pots at a time.
6. Pots and quick-drying soil
Quick drying out of the soil is especially important for Cacti and Succulents.
That is why we grow Cacti and succulents (including Aas flowers) mainly in round pots.
Partly because of this, our Cacti and succulents survive temperatures of minus 8 degrees Celsius .....
