GRAFTING PEYOTE CACTI
GRAFTING PEYOTE CACTI
You can grow a Peyote Cactus attached to another Cactus.
This technique is called grafting a Peyote Cactus.
After grafting, both Cacti then form one grown together.
The lower Cactus (called rootstock) passes water and nutrients to the upper Peyote Cactus.
Usually, the rootstock is a strong and less sensitive Cactus species that grows quickly.
For example, a Trichocereus species or Echinopsis species.
Such a strong rootstock allows the Peyote Cactus on top of the rootstock to grow much faster than normal.
Also, the grafted Peyote is less susceptible to too much moisture and pests in the soil.
scion = English name for shoot, side branch.
Such a scion is used to graft onto a rootstock.
