CARE
|
JANUARY
|
1. Insulation
If necessary, cover the Cacti with bubble wrap.
Insulate your greenhouse, breeding box, or place in front of the window with (bubble) foil.
Provide enough cover material to give your plants extra protection.
E.g. bubble wrap, plastic film, jute bags.
2. Greenhouse
Check for cracks in the glass of the greenhouse.
Check for leaks in the greenhouse.
Relocate Cacti and Succulents under a leakage.
3. Overwinter location
Make sure your Mescaline Cacti are kept warm enough in winter.
Do not leave your Mescaline Cacti outside in winter !
Put cold-sensitive Cacti in another place, or take them out of the greenhouse in the house.
4. Windows
Close windows at night when temperatures are below 5 degrees Celsius.
Open windows slightly in sunny weather
5. Screen cloth / Insulation cloth
Let sunlight shine into the greenhouse on a sunny day by opening the closed screen cloth.
The sun still warms the Cacti a little during the day.
Close an existing screen cloth before dusk.
If necessary, leave the screen closed all day in cold weather.
6. Heating
Check the heating, including the drain and the supply.
7. Water
Drain water from pipes, taps, pump, barrels.
8. Sowing
In January and February, you can already sow Mescaline Cactus seeds.
Just-risen seeds (seedlings) need less light than adult plants.
Therefore, these often dark months are good for sowing seeds.
In the lighter month of March, the already larger grown baby Mescaline Cacti can
benefit from the extra light.
9. Getting cuttings to root.
January is also a good month to let cuttings root.
Put the cutting in a pot with dry soil in the light.
After about 4 to 6 weeks, new root tips will be visible on the underside of the Mescaline Cactus.
After 2 to 3 months, cuttings have often made a wreath of thick root tips.

FEBRUARY
|
1. February is the coldest month of the year.
Fortunately, the sun is higher in the sky in February than in January.
And the day length in February is longer, and the length of nights shorter than in January.
Therefore, the more severe cold is offset by the warmer sunlight.
You notice this especially well in a greenhouse, because a greenhouse with content retains heat.
2. Power of the sun
The power of the sun is increasing.
On sunny days, it can get sub-tropical warm in a greenhouse (20-35 degrees Celsius).
3. Insulation
Leave the insulation in place until around 1 March.
Even after 1 March, it can still get very cold !
4. Greenhouse
Check for cracks in the glass of the greenhouse.
Check for leaks in the greenhouse.
Relocate Cacti and Succulents under a leak.
5. Windows
Open windows slightly in sunny and warm weather
6. Shade cloth / Insulation cloth
Let sunlight shine into the greenhouse on a sunny day by opening the closed screen cloth.
The sun still warms the Cacti a little during the day.
Close an existing screen cloth before dusk.
If necessary, leave the screen closed all day in cold weather.
7. Heating
Check the heating, including the outlet and the supply.
8. Watering
Wait until 1 March before watering.
At low temperatures, plants cannot absorb moisture anyway, nor evaporate.
9. Sowing
You can sow Mescaline Cactus seeds as early as February.
Just-risen seeds (seedlings) need less light than adult plants.
Therefore, these often dark months are good for sowing seeds.
In the lighter month of March, the already larger grown baby Mescaline Cacti can
benefit from the extra light.
10. Getting cuttings to root.
February is also a good month to let cuttings root.
Put the cutting in a pot with dry soil in the light.
After about 4 to 6 weeks, new root tips will be visible on the underside of the Mescaline Cactus.
After 2 to 3 months, cuttings have often made a wreath of thick root tips.

MARCH
|
1. Burn in sunny weather !
Beware of burning in sunny weather in spring and summer !
On sunny days, the temperature in an enclosed space can get high.
Even behind a window on a windowsill, and especially in a plant greenhouse.
Together with strong sunlight, the temperature on a Mescaline Cactus gets even higher.
Make sure you take timely measures to prevent burning.
2. Ventilation lowers the air temperature
Ensure sufficient ventilation in sunny weather so that the air temperature does not rise too high.
Let cooler outside air in by opening windows or doors.
Provide an automatic window opener in a greenhouse.
Make sure seedlings and young Mescaline Cacti are not in full sun.
3. Shielding reduces solar radiation
Protect your Cacti from the sun's rays, e.g. with old newspapers.
In a cactus greenhouse, you can hang special green screen cloth.
4. Watering
In March, Mescaline Cacti can be watered again.
Wait until the daily temperature rises above 10 degrees before watering for the first time.
Make sure the root ball is completely saturated with water.
If the root ball hardly absorbs any water, leave the pot in the water for a few hours.
Make sure that the excess water can drain completely from the pot after watering.
5. Giving fertiliser
Give Cactus fertiliser to your Mescaline Cacti every second watering.
Give a maximum of 1 gram of Cactus fertiliser per litre of water every four weeks.
Or a maximum of 0.5 grams of Cactus fertiliser per litre of water every two weeks
|
APRIL
|
1. Watering
Water Mescaline Cacti every fortnight.
Make sure that the root ball with soil gets completely drenched with water.
If the root ball does not absorb water easily, leave the pot in the water for a few hours.
After watering, let the excess water drain out of the pot completely.
2. Feeding
Give food (fertiliser) to your Mescaline Cacti every second watering.
Give a maximum of 1 gram of cactus fertiliser per litre of water every four weeks.
Or a maximum of 0.5 grams of Cactus fertiliser per litre of water every two weeks.
3. Growth
All Mescaline Cacti should be growing now.
Causes if a Mescaline Cactus does not grow:
1. The roots of The Mescaline Cactus are affected.
Carefully remove the pot from the root ball.
Gently pull on the pot root ball to test whether the root ball is still attached to the Mescaline Cactus.
See if any roots can be seen.
Look for any infestations or pests.
2. The Mescaline Cactus has an infection or disease.
3. The Mescaline Cactus is not getting enough water and nutrition.
4. The Mescaline Cactus is not getting enough light.
4. Temperature
Make sure the temperature in your growing area does not get too high!
The temperature should not exceed 50 degrees Celsius in the sun.
Ventilate the air in the greenhouse or room, and screen against direct sunlight.
5. Burning in sunny weather !
Mescaline Cacti can burn in sunny weather.
Keep the temperature in the sun below 50 degrees Celsius.
Seedlings and young Mescaline Cacti should not stand in full sunlight or they will boil to death.
6. Ventilation of hot air
Ensure adequate ventilation of the greenhouse or windowsill in sunny weather.
Open windows far enough so that enough warm air can be exhausted from the greenhouse.
7. Screen against direct sunlight
Shield your Mescaline Cacti from direct sunlight with:
screen mesh, a newspaper, or close curtains.
8. Move sensitive Mescaline Cacti
Move sensitive Mescaline Cacti to a less sunny and warm place.
Do not put seedlings and young Mescaline Cacti in full sun.
Put Mescaline Cacti in a lower place where it is cooler, or on the soil.
9. Sowing Mescaline Cacti
In April, the temperature is high enough to sow Mescaline Cactus seeds in a greenhouse.
Shield the pot from direct sunlight.

MEI
|
1. Growth
In May, all Mescaline Cacti should be growing well.
If they are not growing, something is wrong.
1. Do your Mescaline Cacti get water every two weeks?
2. Are the nutrients in the soil used up ?
Adding cactus fertiliser will help in this case.
3. Are the roots damaged, or do they have infections ?
2. Cactus fertiliser
Cactus fertiliser contains little nitrogen (N).
This allows Mescaline Cacti to grow further in a naturally compact manner.
With ordinary houseplant fertiliser, Mescaline Cacti grow longer and limp.
3. Watering
In May, Mescaline Cacti should be watered every fortnight.
Make sure the root ball is completely drenched with water.
If the root ball hardly absorbs any water, leave the pot in the water for a few hours.
Make sure that excess water can drain completely from the pot after watering.
Give Cactus fertiliser to your Mescaline Cacti every second watering.
Dosage: 0.5 grams to 1 gram of solid Cactus fertiliser (powder) per litre of water.
4. Sunburn in sunny weather !
In sunny weather, Mescaline Cacti can easily burn.
Keep the temperature in the sun below 50 degrees.
1. Shield your Mescaline Cacti from strong sunlight with screen netting or a newspaper.
2. Ensure adequate ventilation of the greenhouse or windowsill in sunny weather.
5. Sowing
May is a good time to sow seeds of Mescaline Cacti without extra heating.
Make sure the seed tray is not in the sun.
Shield it from direct sunlight.

AUGUST
|
1. Best growing month for Mescaline Cacti !
August is the best growing month for Mescaline Cacti.
Mescaline Cacti have made a lot of roots in the previous months.
With which they can absorb a lot of nutrients.
Also, there is still a lot of light and the temperature is high.
All this ensures that your Mescaline Cacti can grow very well in August.
2. Watering
Also in August, Mescaline Cacti should be watered every fortnight.
Make sure the root ball is completely drenched with water.
If the root ball hardly absorbs any water, leave the pot in the water for a few hours.
Make sure that excess water can drain out of the pot completely after watering.
Water on time, if necessary a few days earlier if it is very warm (25 - 30 degrees Celsius).
3. Cactus fertiliser
Cactus fertiliser contains little nitrogen (N).
This allows Mescaline Cacti to grow further in a naturally compact manner.
With ordinary houseplant fertiliser, Mescaline Cacti grow longer and limp.
Give Cactus fertiliser with the water every 4 weeks (every second watering).
Fertilise in August with calcium nitrate fertiliser for extra nitrogen, and thus extra length growth.
More information on Cactus fertiliser here.
Dosage: 0.5 grams to 1 gram of solid Cactus fertiliser (powder) per litre of water.
More info on cultivation and care of Mescaline Cacti.
4. Summer rest
If the temperature gets too high, Mescaline Cacti go into summer dormancy.
They then stop growing for a few weeks.
This often happens in late July and early August, when it gets very hot (25-35 degrees Celsius).
Sometimes there is a heat wave then too.
5. Sunburn in sunny weather !
With sunny weather, Mescaline Cacti can easily burn.
Keep the temperature in the sun below 50 degrees.
Especially from late July to mid-August, it can be especially hot (30-35 degrees, heat wave).
With a little sun, it quickly becomes very hot behind a window or in a greenhouse.
1. Shield your Mescaline Cacti from strong sunlight with screen netting or a newspaper.
2. Ensure adequate ventilation of the greenhouse or window sill in sunny weather.

SEPTEMBER
|
1. Good growing month for Mescaline Cacti !
If there is enough sun, Mescaline Cacti can continue to grow well in September.
Mescaline Cacti have made a lot of roots in the previous months.
This allows them to absorb a lot of nutrients.
There is also still plenty of light, which can be very warm in September.
In the sun, the temperature at home or in a greenhouse is high enough for Mescaline Cacti.
2. Watering
Even in September, Mescaline Cacti should be watered every fortnight.
Make sure the root ball gets completely soaked with water.
If the root ball hardly absorbs any water, leave the pot in the water for a few hours.
Make sure that the excess water can drain completely from the pot after watering.
Do not give Cactus fertiliser after 15 September.
Give less or none of the fertiliser calcium nitrate fertiliser (= length growth).
Make sure the temperature does not get too low, so open the windows less.
3. Cactus fertiliser
Cactus fertiliser contains little nitrogen (N), and relatively much phosphorus and potassium.
This allows Mescaline Cacti to grow further in a naturally compact manner.
With ordinary houseplant fertiliser, Mescaline Cacti grow longer and limp.
Give Cactus fertiliser with the water every 4 weeks (every second watering).
Dosage: 0.5 grams to 1 gram of solid Cactus fertiliser (powder) per litre of water.
Do not fertilise with calcium nitrate fertiliser in September for extra nitrogen and extra length growth.
This makes the Mescaline Cacti grow slower, in preparation for their winter dormancy.
Our Cactus fertiliser also contains the main fertiliser Magnesium, which is needed for the chlorophyll.
As well as all trace elements.
Find out more about Cactus fertiliser here.
4. Hibernation
Hibernation starts on 1 October, and is enforced by not giving any more water.
More info on cultivation and care of Mescaline Cacti.

OCTOBER
|
1. Watering
Do not water again unless sunny weather is predicted for a week before 8 October.
In that case, water without fertiliser.
2. Growth
After about 14-21 October, Mescaline Cacti stop growing,
because temperatures drop and sunlight becomes too little.
Both the number of hours of sunlight decreases, but the intensity of sunlight also decreases
because the sun is lower in the sky.
3. Temperature
Make sure the temperature does not get too low, open the windows less.
4. Ventilation
Make sure the windows are open so that enough moist air can be removed from the greenhouse.
Despite the cold, try to keep the windows open as much as possible.
From about 1 November, the soil should be dried out.
If the soil stays damp for too long, pests can multiply
and may affect the Mescaline Cacti.
5. Preparing for winter
It can already freeze considerably in early November, sometimes for more than a week !
Take timely measures to protect your Mescaline Cacti from the cold.
Make sure the Mescaline Cacti are warm enough in winter.<br>
1. Do not leave your Mescaline Cacti outside in winter !
2. Insulate your greenhouse, breeding box, or place in front of the window with (bubble) foil.
3. Check the heating system.
4. Move cold-sensitive Cacti elsewhere, or remove them from the greenhouse in your home.
5. Provide enough cover material to give your plants extra protection.
E.g. bubble wrap, plastic film, jute bags.
|
NOVEMBER
|
Do not water anymore.
Make sure the temperature does not get too low, open the windows less.
Make sure the windows are open so that sufficient moisture can drain out of the greenhouse.
Watch out for sub-zero temperatures (night frost) !
If there is frost, close the windows and, if necessary, cover the Cacti with bubble wrap.
|
DECEMBER
|
1. Insulation

6. Heating
Check the heating, including the drain and supply.
7. Water
Drain water from pipes, taps, pump, vessels.
